Disasters Of The Century - Windsor Gas (2004)

On the Saturday afternoon of October 26th, 1960, the busy Metropolitan Department Store in downtown Windsor suddenly exploded from within. The blast erupted from the rear of the building, lifting people up and hurling them through the front windows. Hundreds of people gathered at the scene as rescuers pulled bodies out of the collapsed building over the next few days. Eleven people died in the explosion. Investigation traced the disaster to some furnace work that was being done at the time.
